This lushly illustrated catalogue was created to complement the Chinese American Museum’s groundbreaking exhibition, Hollywood Chinese: The Arthur Dong Collection. Edited by Arthur Dong, it features an insightful essay by media scholar and Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Renee Tajima-Peña. Spanning 34 pages, the publication delves into the exhibition’s social, cultural, historical, and political significance. It includes 88 images of posters, lobby cards, film stills, and other ephemera from 1916 to the present, chronicling over a century of Chinese representation in American feature films. A comprehensive checklist of exhibition items is also provided.
