Visual effects artist Ellen Poon and make-up artist Tym Buacharern joined Arthur Dong, guest programmer of the Hollywood Chinese: The First 100 Years film series, in a spirited conversation about the controversial practice of yellowface and the erasure of Chinese American creators from film history. The discussion preceded a screening of the 7 Faces of Dr. Lao, which included Oscar@ nominated special visual effects by animator/sculptor Wah Ming Chang, and yellowface makeup by William Tuttle, who received an honorary Oscar® for his work on the film. Presented at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, November 13, 2022.
